Watching Snails

Watching Snails in my backyard to get a feel for their movement for my short animation film. One had a woodlouse piggybacking it along with lots of small mites. One that I picked up for a closer look was still digesting its dinner. Not sure what it had been eating in my yard. They really do look like they are looking back at you when their feelers move. Although snails have poor eyesight.. I think.

Zedonk

Fact is sometimes more strange or interesting than fiction. The Zedonk is a rare cross between a Zebra and a Donkey. The offspring in this case suitably named Pippi Longstocking was born at Chestatee Reserve in Georgia, US recently.

Time Lapse Project

I have started work on a short experimental piece of work using time lapse photography. I am intending to film some mushrooms growing and use the footage to illustrate Sylvia Plath's poem about mushrooms. "We shall by morning / Inherit the earth. / Our foot's in the door." is part of the poem. There is a dark, sinister tone to it.

It will be made using a mix of stills, drawings and after fx.

I was inspired by Andreas Soderberg's Ecological Apple

CGI Short Film

I have finally started work on a short CGI film. The film is to be animated in Maya and composited in After FX. The working title is 'Escape' and tells the story of Ginger a flatbound Glaswegian cat who craves the freedom of the outdoors and his attempts at escape from his prison towerblock.

The film is aimed at an audience of 11+, is a black comedy and will have a running length of 2 minutes.

Earth Hour

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.
For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.
This meeting will determine official government policies to take action against global warming, which will replace the Kyoto Protocol. It is the chance for the people of the world to make their voice heard.

Hello and welcome to Hedgehog Photos and Animation's Blog.

Last year I joined a University in the south west as a full time animation Lecturer. An exciting opportunity that I am enjoying very much.

Over the next few weeks I hope to update my blog with projects that I am starting. For animators and artists in the Bristol area I will be setting up a network site, possibly named Hedgehog Collective to discuss local job opportunities, training and local festivals.

I am also looking to start a personal CGI project and will be advertising for a CG mentor.
The other project I am starting is a flash animation project which if it turns out ok I hope to enter into the Depict competition.
